Dayz Sahrani - Mod Development - Work In Progress

This picture represents 240 TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY, new enterable apartments (not rooms, they're 4 rooms and a deck each) in Corazol alone.

I'd say it's safe to call that a city.

Those apartments are only in Corazol and Pita, Pita only has the 4 story buildings... but the other building I did is ALL OVER the south, so it makes a huge difference. I haven't done any loot tables or tested the build in the mod, but I will try to do so this week.

I've got to clean up the buildings a little, and I might find out I have to spend some time doing lower res LODs, but I might not... we'll see how the MP test turns out.

I MIGHT setup a test server for the G+ folks to test out first.. I'll see if there is any interest.

I might just throw out an update with them as is, and see what/if I get any feedback from server hosts.

sleep deprevation ftw!

That city looks epic. Unfortunatly there whas little interest in a vanilla DayZ Sahrani server.
I'm going to swap it and host it along with Epoch so that should help alot to get more players onto the absolute stunning beautifull Saharani environment. People have no idea what they are missing out on.

Yeah, CCG is currently running an Overpoch Sahrani server that a bunch of streamers are playing (psipsyndicate, and sadaplays, I've seen so far.). They have a dedicated launcher they use to solve the launching problem with a mix.

Play With Six's shared collections should allow for a REALLY easy method of blending Sahrani/Epoch/overpoch or w'ever, and still allow for players to easily join. But obv. you'll have to convince everyone to use PWS instead of DayZ Commander. You could even just run all our addons, and Overpoch, and with a bit of cut/pasting into your mission file from our mod files, you SHOULD be able to load the additional skins and zombies.

You'd load:
SMD_Sahrani_A2, - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=22209

Then whatever mod or mods you want

Speaking of sleep deprivation, here's a post I forgot to click "submit" on last night:

Here's the smd_dum_olez_istan_maly_open buildings all over Paraiso. There are near if not over 20 in this picture. 2 floors, I didn't do 2 variants, I have an idea for randomizing the furniture layouts in all the buildings.

I have some issues left, but tonight I've managed to get basically ALL the problems with the above building (it's the little box building that is lined up on the retaining wall on the left, and another row of them in an arch at the bottom right of the pic) The doors now work, the shutters work, I just have to get the glass working (it might actually already be working, I am testing in A3, but M1lkm8n's glass still works, so I'm sure I busted it.).

I need to do some tightening up of the models before publishing an update, but it shouldn't be that bad.

Yeah, I mean with no coder, it's certainly never developed very far. The Terrain, and then assets have been the sole focus for some time, the work seven, pepin, and graf did was GREAT, but the big goals never got accomplished... I'm sort of compelled to learn that end of Arma modding, and buff up my coding knowledge in general, but have a much clearer path and motivation to just port the buildings/terrain to A3, then maybe pick up coding from there... but again There are still so many things I want to do just to the terrain.

We'll see. I have managed to clean up the Maly building drastically. It SHOULD be almost perfect now.

Plugging away, the Apartments are almost 100pct as well now. I still have to do the low res lods, but that's not too bad.

Adjusting some of the lods, and fixing some of the F ups I made when I first started these. They could do with a full rebuild, but they're fine for now, and it will be nice to put out an update.

The super tall one, and the 4 story are both going to be exploit 3rd person heaven for a while, I'm not even 100pct sure how to do those lods. After this update, I am going take some time before I do anything else to do some tutorials so I have a better base of knowledge.

I was playing around a bit with the geometry and roadway for the 2 story brick apartments, and I opened up the 2 closets and made them a bit bigger, and I also made it so you can lean over the railings and shoot around the side from each floor, you can also shoot down at the ground below you quite well.

It's really cool, I've been caught in those apartments a few times, and caught a glimpse of someone approaching, and couldn't take the shot cuz they had gotten out of the range of motion on there.

Everything is looking really good, I think I have all the buildings sorted out, I've made a couple of the resolution lods, and the last few are easy.

I have a few things to check, but overall it's pretty much done at this point. I will try to get a final test build packed up and do a MP test over the weekend or next week.

I've got a test build put together and setup my server, I will run around it a bit myself, and then put DL and Server details up on the G+ tester's page.

Found/Fixed a bunch of placement issues, am more comfortable in Visitor now, so the adjustments aren't as painful to make.

I will likely just test this one quickly tonight, fix a few of the things I forgot to do on the buildings, so that I don't get bug reports on stuff I'm aware of. Then turn on server debugging.

It would be a lot better to do with server host that had some baseline numbers on the existing terrain.

I would really love to have a server host, who is familiar with how their machine runs on SMD_Sahrani_A2, and how it performs for their clients, do a test with the new map and see if there are any issues that I can't produce as 1 guy on a local test server, thats all.

I would happily host some Sahrani servers on the new update.

Running in the past Sahrani 45/45 the whole time would cause the minimalist of lag.

Ugh, Really frustrating, I've found a ton of issues since I packed the test pbo's.

Even just tonight, I did some updates in visitor, packed it, and realized there are TONS of placement issues with the Malys... They're not really exciting buildings, so I guess I overlooked a bunch? Also the way they got called in, they ended up mashed into each other often, so from above in bulldozer they're hard to spot.

I've got a bunch of notes, and I fixed a bunch of model issues, and played with some resolution lods, but I don't really like them so far for the maly at least. I have to work on it.

I also have a couple lingering model.cfg and config.cpp issues to work out on the new buildings too. I have to get the ladders working properly, and the breaking glass and door on the maly.

I'm going to take a break for a few days though, it's turning into a real rabbit hole as usual. I have to put my energy elsewhere for a bit.

Ok guys I have DL the Sahrani from here under client hoping to play this SP but cant locate the map to put in mission and i also DL Sahrani from DayZ Commander but still no map to put in mission folder and wondering if there is one or how do i get on it in SP?

singleplayer is enabled at the main menu, you can just click singleplayer, select sahrani, and then drop a player and run around.

All our custom units and vehicles are config'd in there too.

The MP mission is available in the server DL on here.

I fixed EVERYTHING that I mentioned except the textures in the elevator shaft, and the resolution lods.

The glass shatters in the Maly, the doors and shutters all open in it. The apartments ladders all work now as well. I think I need to update the geo lod one last time so that flares and grenades land on floors properly inside the apartments.

When I load it to main menu it has all but single player on the left. If look closely there is the Single Player to the right of Player Profile but is ghost out.

I select it it take me to the Campaign, Scenario etc...

When I click Scenarios to pick maps the Sahrani is not there.

Hope these pics help explain my problems.

I am up loading 3 screen shots to let you see what I am getting at.

Click editor, then select sahrani,

There are no packed singleplayer missions to "play", you could do the armory, but it might flip out with the DayZ stuff, not sure, I've never really played with it.

Just selected "editor" at the bottom of your second screenshot, it will show a list of maps,

select sahrani,

and then double click anywhere on the map,(you will get a config bin error, just click continue or ok) then you have to select a player unit,

(to quickly just drop an SMD BLOPS Unit) you drop down the "class" drop box and select "SMD BLOPS" and hit enter twice, that will confirm the selection of that unit, and select the "preview" option on the right.

Was getting frustrated working on the same buildings over and over and over... So, I started poking around for some satisfying stuff to get banged out quick.

I made all the dumpsters openable, they already had the bones defined, and even the axis, just no button or config. Interior of the dumpster model is textured and everything.

Also did a REALLY quick job of retexturing the desert aircraft hangers with the animated doors so they're green. The doors are all still brown but the building is green, so I can plop them down where the boring BI ones were on the terrain.

Here's a quick vid I threw together of the dumpster:

I love how even the spring streches as the dumpster opens.
Looking forward to the terrain and buildings update this time!

Man, even trying to take on a simple task can make you pull your hair out while learning in Arma. Those dumpsters worked great until I made them part of the terrain. Turned out I need to define some parameters in the geo lod to get it functioning as a map object instead of a freely placed object... oi.

Moved on from that figuring, hey I should be able to animate the wells no problem now... whoops lol.

I really need to get my core knowledge up to snuff, I should really just suck it up and do some of the tutorials from back to front at this point, but I'm pretty spoiled with M1lkm8n as my personal advisor, and his whole library of work on Sahrani to peek at.
