I just don't want this guy (or anyone else) to think that their only choice for a great DayZ server is between a high-end, expensive Xeon server, or a "mediocre gaming desktop."
Following that line of thinking, if you are not cooling with phase change, then your system is mediocre regardless...
I'm sure many here are running $1000+ CPU's for their DayZ server. Regardless, you are throwing the baby out with the bath water just because your cherry-picked server cpu has more performance than a desktop cpu.
Let's be real here. You are just generalizing. Just because something may perform...
With all due respect, this is pure rubbish. Are you saying that a game server running a desktop CPU like the 3750k at 4.2GHz is not "designed for high performance requirements" and "cannot ever hope to compete with a real server (Xeon processor)"?
I have not been using @cba_co or the corresponding file since it seems redundant--only the other three CBA's. I haven't encountered any issues on my test server (at least nothing that I can trace to the CBA's).
I don't use dayz commander or six updater. In order to get everything working with no errors for both my server and client, I had to use all three CBA files instead of the single CBA_CO file. Not sure if the single CBA_CO file is causing your FPS issue or not.
Anyway, if nothing else, I...
Sweet! Thanks for the response.
Any ideas how large the Invasion 1944 maps are compared to Chernarus (excluding water)? I'll probably stick with the largest unless another map has something to draw my interest.
If Chernarus, is it the stock map? I am asking because I am in the middle of zombie spawn tweaking (they now spawn at lighthouses, derelict boats, power line towers, etc.), but will stop if the "building" types will be different since that will render my work useless.
Looks great! My server has been sitting idle for the last few months waiting for SA (just been toying with zombie spawn tweaking). But, I will definitely throw this on ASAP. If you need someone with a server to test anything, let me know.
Remove the dayz.bikey from your server keys folder, and replace with your bikey. Sign all 7 client pbo's, and have your players add all 7 to their folder.
I have tried all of the combinations of passwords, databases, and ip's. None of them work. Any help answering my questions below would be greatly appreciated.
How to install
Unzip the files somewhere on your computer. Let's assume C:\dayz_whitelister
Create a new database on your MySQL...
Well, I guess I'll let go of the server-spawned zombie idea, then. Thanks for all of your help (once again), isathar. I really appreciate your willingness to give your time and expertise to my crazy ideas. At least I learned a lot about FSM files! :)
I wonder if there are other, less...
Just comment out all of the zombie code in dayz_code\compiles\player_spawnCheck.sqf, and you will have zero zombies.
You could also probably gain some performance by editing the player_monitor.fsm to keep it from checking for zombies, but you would probably need to use an fsm editor for that.
If you are just getting started I would stress organization, regular saving in a different folder (as soon as a single change works), and keeping that untouched set of extracted pbos/bins in a separate folder like I mentioned above for reference (make the folder read-only, so you don't...
I am new to scripting, but have recently spent many, many hours fully engrossed in it. Here are the helpful things I have come across. It would be great if everyone would list what they use since I am sure there are more/better resources than what are on my list.
--Notepad++ with ArmA plugin...
That would be sweet if it works! So, maybe the server would be able to spawn like 10,000 zombies (server FPS goes way down), "sleep" the zombies with a "while" loop or something until a player comes into range (server FPS goes back up), then hand the zombies over to the client when in range...
I ran a test where I placed a "sleep 1000;" towards the beginning of the zombie_agent.fsm. This froze all spawned zombies in place (could still hit me if I got close), but my server FPS went back up to 48 from 7. This seems to indicate that if we could "sleep" all server spawned zombies outside...
After doing a clean server install of 1.7.4 and adding the 1.7.5 dev files on top, I edited the necessary files in the most minimal way possible in order to have the server spawn the zombies with no errors (most was simply moving the files from dayz_code to dayz_server, and wrapping everything...
