Wasteland + Dynamic Zombie sandbox :D

looks like the Dynamic Zombie Sandbox ( http://dynamiczombiesandbox.com/ ) is ported to Arma 3 as well as Wasteland, Had some fun tonight with the two of them combined ala Wasteland'z' style

here is a new build 3/19/13 there are many changes and improvements to zombie spawning, making them look more dead, not spawning in water, fixing things I broke in wasteland, timing improvements and optimizations to how it runs, the beginnings of a new zombie side mission, and the size is now only 2.3mb vs the 6mb that the last version was, probably other things I'm forgetting too, a lot of work has been put into this one

*if you run this on a dedi I recommend you set the max clients in your cfg from 80 to 85, even tho the map has 60 slots and the mission thinks there are 65 they don't match, I know, but for some reason it spawns more zombies that way

Big ups to Tonic, Celery, Craig, the 404 guys, and my buddy Coin who besides getting me the Alpha to play with has let me abuse his server in testing this and put in about as many hours as I have into it fixing bugs and working out the kinks. Also thanks to the guys from HNGamers for putting up with a lot of noob questions.

yeap and also the regular wasteland is getting rid of the kinks bit by bit :)

i got a v1.04 port of wasteland running asswel (remote connect to a3.soki.nl )

its crazy how hard all the mods/missions are comming inn :) when this game is done its really a contender for GOTY :)

Those zombies are not to be trifled with, I've been loving wasteland and A3, but I missed the zeds, combining the two made perfect sense

this is pretty bad ass, using the latest versions of wasteland and DZS, I basically have the wasteland game all working with its vehicles + zombies and random loot piles in buildings, it's starting to almost remind me of another familiar mod

I thought I'd share this with everyone after getting permission from the arma 3 wasteland sandbox mission makers and the Dynamic Zombie Sandbox mission maker.

This is the two of those awesome sandbox missions combined 100% to those teams credit, all the side missions and vehicles of wasteland with the random loot in buildings and destroyed buildings and zombies from the DZS, it's pretty fun, try it out!

I've tried to join this or a server running the same combo and it randomly (often) crashes my game on joining.

It's cool and all, I'd really just like to see a dayz port though.

I don't know if anyone is running the build i put on armaholic, that one was pretty stable, My buddy hosts a server we've been testing this mission on and because it's the one we're always changing things, and trying things on, that one does crash pretty often, I have a newer stable build of the mission that's down to only 2.3mb from 6.5 where this started with a lot of things fixed that I'll update armaholic with soon, you can PM me if you want it before then.

I'll have another look at this cheers Cancerous :)
Tried the previous release and it was ok, zombie spawning was a bit messy when they can spawn behind you.

its not a mod its a mission, its not for arma 2 its for arma 3, btw dayz is mod

Despite the brevity of your statement and seeming confidence with which it was stated, you are almost 100pct wrong.

Dynamic Zombie Sandbox is available for Arma 2, as is Wasteland (and wasteland is both a mod AND a mission):

Wasteland is not only available for A2 but it is BOTH a mod AND a mission:

http://www.dlwl.co/

Wasteland for A2 is VERY robust in terms of base building and sandbox play-ability... you can take a mounted gun; set it up on a road, with a roadblock you put there; and then spend the day unleashing hell on anyone who rounds the corner... It's pretty cool, I never had much time to play it though.
You could/people have made this EXACT combo for A2 for YEARS... according to this thread, tonic's wasteland mission evolved out of the original DZS mission:

he's also almost 100% right too, they havn't made mod versions of them yet for arma 3, and neither did I, everything is crammed into a mission PBO for the moment, and now that the size is down so much, it's not as bad hosting it as a mission

...and Xiberviri did make this combo before I did for Arma 2, I didn't get a chance to try it out but I imagine it was pretty cool, it sounded that way, and inspired me to try this

The question posed by Dominatez:

Is this mod available for Arma 2 and if so do you have any idea where i can find it ?

The Answer:

its not a mod its a mission, its not for arma 2 its for arma 3, btw dayz is mod

That is almost 100pct wrong, the ONLY thing that is correct in that reply is:

"btw dayz is a mod"

you could give partial credit for pointing out that DZS is not a mod, but Wasteland and DZS are both available for A2 and Wasteland is both a mission and a mod.

Ok we're arguing semantics, although both the separate packages are available for arma 2, I don't know that anyone has made this combination available through distribution with both packages combined as a mod or mission for arma 2, and if you think it was light work, look at the commit log on my git. All the mission/scripting/coding/fixing/breaking aside, this has about 100 hours of playtesting put into it too, and my poor buddy Coin's (who got me arma 3 to goof around with him, and has been a HUGE help in fixing lots of bugs) server being abused during all that

I was never implying anything about the quality, or quantity of your work at all...

I was merely stating that the very short reply given by one user to another user was dismissive and almost entirely inaccurate.. it had nothing to do with your OP or your project.

The ties between DSZ & Wasteland are deeper than I think you know though, and your job might be made easier by looking into whether someone has married them before, which I'm pretty sure they have... and again I'm not trying to say it's easy or you're a copy cat, I'm trying to suggest you look around and see. It might make your job easier, and your end product BETTER...
I would never talk trash about someone's work period. You're doing something AWESOME and I am itching to play it...

I did a quick google search and came up with these older/down servers... although I have a feeling they were running an entirely different mod that happened to have "wasteland" "dynamic" and "zombies" in the title as well... but again I don't think any of that is a coincidence. I'm fairly sure all the projects were born of each other... as linked above I'm SURE that Tonic's Wasteland evolved from DSZ

The most valuable thing I've learned so far in the transition I've made from player, to admin, to kinda almost dev, (and previously in EVERY forum environment) is this:

1. People re-do things ALL the time
- whether that's 400 posts saying "is my pc good enough" or 20 people working on crafting systems

2. Most people on forums are both defensive and arrogant, neither of which lend to open sharing or discussion

3. Most of those people are that way because they are scared people will call them out on their lack of knowledge

4. EVERYONE was born stupid, you're not supposed to know everything.

I never intend to come off as obnoxious as I seem too, and I'm always only trying to help... and I by NO MEANS think or assume I am more knowledge-able than anyone on here... period...

I don't check post counts, don't care about who is who, I ask questions that I have, and make statements that I believe to be correct.. and am more than willing to accept that I may have been wrong from the outset.

I dig it man, thanks for joining the discussion, I'm firmly under the belief that there is no such thing as an original idea anymore as well, everything's been done by someone else, at least once, and I usually try to look back for those experiences so the collective human knowledge base isn't wasted. I'll google for this mission distributed as a mod for arma2, I could very well be wrong, my first search will be 'wastelandz' tho.

I have been over enough of the code to have seen tonic in both of them tho, it's pretty awesome how it's evolved, both sandbox's are fun separately, I like both together a lot too, it's really hard to even just give tonic credit tho as there are scripts in here from so many people, proving grounds, R3F, dynamic weather, additions/changes by the 404 games guys, additions and changes by Craig, lots of zombie stuff from someone named Celery, and probably more I've not seen yet, but I have no qualms with giving them all credit where it's due, I'm not one that likes to take peoples hard work and just put my name on it and let people think I'm somehow responsible for it.

Sorry if I come off dickish as well, I've been around a while and I'm just used to the trend of kids nowdays thinking trolling is something new.
