Adding custom scripts HELP

hey guys, i have spent tons of hours looking up how to do this but i cant seem to figure it out because all the tuts ive found have been to vague and dont specify the directory of the file they are talking about etc..... i started renting a server a few days ago with the intention to add a bunch of custom scripts, however i have been unable to do so. i would even be willing to pay for someones time if they could help me out, i just really want to get this going.
